Most dermal fillers used in the UK contain a natural substance called hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid, sounds scary, right? No need to be worried – it holds the key to smooth, healthy, hydrated and younger looking skin!
Hyaluronic acid is a clear substance that is naturally produced by our bodies, roughly half of it is found in our skin, it is found in both the deep underlying dermal layers as well as the visible epidermal top layers. It’s main function is to bind to water to help retain moisture, keeping our skin hydrated and supple.
The natural aging process, UV/sun exposure, smoking and pollution can decrease the amount of hyaluronic acid found in our skin, causing skin to develop lines, wrinkles, redness, become lax and dehydrated.
This is where a little dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid can help!
Dermal filler can be injected into lines, wrinkles and facial folds. The effects are seen immediately and get even better with time, whilst the filler is still present. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are temporary and generally last between 6-18 months.
Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are increasingly popular amongst both men and women with their ability to take years off someones appearance with just a single visit! Research suggests that hyaluronic acid injections may stimulate collagen production, leading to fresher, younger-looking skin in the long run. It’s a YES from me!
The before and after photographs I have taken of my client for this blog tell the story well. I treated the naso-labial lines (nose to mouth lines) with 1ml of hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler in each side. There is a visible improvement immediately after the treatment and even better 4 weeks later! All down to the hyaluronic acid attracting water, further hydrating and plumping the skin and just, well… working wonders!
For anyone that has someone in their life who is totally against filler (I hear it all to often!) ‘my hubby would go mad’ is a common one! You can now tell them (if they are the types that notice these subtle little things!) that you have had Hyaluronic acid injections to condition your skin without even mentioning the word ‘filler’ – it’s not a lie! You can thank me later 🙂
And remember, with filler, steady as you go, to build up slowly is the key, this may take time over a few visits if necessary but it’s the most natural and safest way to do it. It’s a firm no from me for more than 1ml in each area in a single visit.
(Dermal filler can also be injected to create structure to the cheeks, jawline and chin and add volume to plump the lips, I will do another blog on these types of filler treatments soon)
